The Netherlands has become the third largest investor in Panama

The Netherlands has become the 3rd largest foreign investor in Panama, according to the most recent data released by INEC, Panama statistics office (2019 investment flows).

The Netherlands moved up one spot in the ranking, compared to the year before. Canada and Colombia rank first and second. Ecuador & the United Kingdom 4th & 5th. The Dutch investments of 433 m. USD (+61% compared to year before) represent 10% of total investments in Panama that year. 

The data do not show the investment sectors per country, but overall FDI into Panama from all countries was mainly concentrated in wholesale & retail commerce (40%), mining (37,6%), finance & insurance (17,1%) and manufacturing (12,9%) (see FDI Flows Panama sectors). FDI in manufacturing saw an increase of 367. 9% compared to the year before.

In terms of stocks (accumulated investments over time), the Netherlands ranks 8th (moved up from the 11th place in 2018).
