The Dutch Embassy in Tanzania is actively working to enhance cooperation in the field of ports and logistics, aligning with the broader strategy in agriculture and food systems. This builds upon existing initiatives like Trademark Africa and leverages valuable Dutch expertise in the sector.
Recognizing the significance of both the Northern and Southern corridors in Tanzania, the Embassy is strengthening collaborations with strategic partners. Last year, we brought together around 15 Dutch ports and logistics companies (that is still growing) to establish regular updates, explore opportunities, and foster synergies. In collaboration with this Dutch Ports & Logistics Consortium, we are organizing on November 6-8 a Dutch trade mission to Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar focusing on ports and inland connections.
Tanzania has the potential to become a leading trading market in East Africa and can serve as a crucial transit hub for landlocked countries in the region. In recent years, significant growth has already been observed, yet substantial challenges remain in fully realizing this potential. The Tanzanian government is actively encouraging foreign businesses to invest and operate in the country. At the Embassy, we assist Dutch companies in identifying opportunities in the sector.
Despite modernization efforts, Tanzania's ports and logistics sector faces challenges like hard and soft infrastructure limitations, inefficiencies, and skill gaps, hindering cargo volume growth and increasing costs. The government is addressing these issues through infrastructure investments, streamlined regulations, automation, and workforce development. Collaboration with Dutch companies, offering expertise in areas like infrastructure development, digitalization, and capacity building, can be instrumental in improving Tanzania's competitiveness in the global market.
Dutch companies already active in ports & logistics in Tanzania or that are highly interested to explore opportunities in Tanzania, government agencies and training centers operating in sectors relevant to port development, logistics, maritime services.
We seek to enhance trade and investment between the Netherlands and Tanzania through:
